Board of Director Elections

The Student Association Board of Directors is made up of 7 full-time fee-paying students. Every January the Board runs an election to fill the vacant seats for the upcoming term. Nomination packages for the 2024-2025 elections are available starting January 29th, 2024 until February 14th, 2024.

HILDA ANOWEY
Hilda Anowey presents a dynamic candidacy for the St. Lawrence College Student Association's Board of Directors, backed by a robust history of leadership and advocacy within campus organizations. My active involvement in diverse student clubs underscores my dedication to fostering empowerment and inclusivity among peers. In my capacity as a board member, I will wholeheartedly commit to prioritizing student empowerment, amplifying voices, and nurturing inclusivity. By harnessing strategic vision and fostering a collaborative leadership style, I strive to elevate the student experience and cultivate a supportive campus environment. My background in accounting underscores my dedication to accountability and transparency in governance, while my relentless pursuit of learning ensures I remain abreast of current trends and best practices. Furthermore, I introduce innovative initiatives, including the establishment of Bursaries for academically outstanding students and 'Empowering Arrival: Bridging Pathways to Canada.' The latter initiative aims to seamlessly connect incoming students with pertinent organizations, offering indispensable guidance on registration processes upon their arrival in Canada. These endeavors, underscored by hashtags such as #EmpowerArrival, #NavigatingCanada, and #StudentSupports, can be proudly sponsored by the SLC Student Association Board of Directors. They epitomize my unwavering commitment to fostering student success and championing academic excellence.

JHANVI BHATT
Namaste! I'm Jhanvi Bhatt, an Indian physiotherapist running for the Student Board Election at St. Lawrence School. With a background in healthcare, I bring experience, empathy, and dedication to the table. Starting my journey in India, I learned the value of effective communication and empathy in healthcare. Now at St. Lawrence, I'm drawn to its nurturing environment and diverse student community.

Engaging in volunteer work and student initiatives back in India, I've organized health camps and mentored students, realizing the power of collective action. My goal for the Student Board is to elevate student voices, foster inclusiveness, enact beneficial changes, and foster cultural connections, drawing inspiration from my Indian heritage. Drawing upon my experiences in compassion and leadership cultivated in India, I aspire to serve as a conduit for unity within our school community.

GLENN OKAYO ONYANGO
I am Glenn Okayo Onyango, and it is with great enthusiasm that I announce my candidacy for the Student Association Board of Directors. Originating from Kenya and pursuing a postgraduate in Business Analytics, my international student journey has not only shaped my academic pursuits but also fueled a fervent commitment to service.

My dedication to being the voice of the student body is fortified by robust communication skills. I recognize the significance of clear and effective communication, ensuring that the concerns, ideas, and aspirations of students are accurately conveyed to the board. As an international student, I intimately understand the challenges faced by those from minority countries. If elected to the Board of Directors, I promise to address these concerns with diligence and empathy, drawing from personal experiences of navigating a foreign educational landscape. Hello there, I’m eager to run for the Student Association Board, bringing curiosity, creative passion, and an interest in technology. Coming from a small town, I’ve always loved learning and exploring. I express myself through writing stories and playing music. Technology, especially artificial intelligence, has become a fascinating area for me, and I believe it can shape our future. Outside of classes, I value community and collaboration. Whether it’s local projects or joining global conversations, I believe in connecting beyond borders.

I’m Swati, a licensed dentist from India currently pursuing a Healthcare Admin. Program at SLC. Beyond the confines of my dental field, my passion lies in advocating for students and fostering a sense of community.For the upcoming academic year of 2024-2025, I'm excited to announce my candidacy for the Board of Directors for the SA. Throughout my bachelor's degree, I've always been deeply involved with students, striving to make their lives both enjoyable, fun and manageable. Now, I'm eager to bring this dedication to SLC.
My vision encompasses a broad spectrum of initiatives aimed at enhancing student life. From prioritizing food safety at the pub to addressing concerns about locker prices, accommodation, and transportation, I'm committed to ensuring that student needs are met. Moreover, I aim to streamline financial processes, optimize scholarships and bursaries, and advocate for student interests to the college administration and faculty.
Promoting student engagement is at the core of my mission. I plan to support student organizations, organize events, and facilitate connections within the college community. Affordable student accommodations, transparency in decision-making, and responsible budget management are key pillars of my platform. I encourage my fellow students to consider me for the Board of Directors. I aim to create a vibrant campus environment where every student feels valued and supported. Step 2: Campaign Period

Step 1: Nomination Period

Once nomination packages are submitted, the CERO and election committee will review.

Upon review of the packages, the CERO will invite all candidates who meet the requirements to a mandatory candidate orientation. The orientation will educate potential candidates about the duties of a Director and will schedule the evaluation with the board election committee.

The election committee will evaluate all Director candidates and recommend a minimum of the amount of seats to be filled to run in the 2024-2025 St. Lawrence College Students’ Association election. This will be based on the completion of this nomination package and quality of the evaluation.

  • Begin completing the nomination package

  • Items to submit:

o leadership letter
o biography
o resume & cover letter 
o CIPIC
o nominations from fellow students (minimum 10)
o two endorsements (from either faculty, program coordinator, or dean)
o photo

The nomination period has now closed.

 

Step 4: Being a Board Member

Step 3: Elections

  • After the election is complete, successful candidates will become board members.

  • New board members will receive training and more information to follow the elections and will be expected to hold fulfil the roles and responsibility of a board member. 

  • Following the campaign period are the elections.

  • Elections are held over a two-day period, opening at 8:00am on the first day and closing at 4:00pm on the second day.

  • Full-time fee-paying students are eligible to vote.

  • Students can vote one time only and can selection candidates to vote for based on how many seats are available. (e.g., 5 vacant seats = 5 selections for board members).

  • Students who receive the most votes will become the new board member(s).

COMMITMENT
